A Batik Air airplane aborted its takeoff at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta after its wing was clipped by a TransNusa Air aircraft on Monday night.
The collision with the TransNusa Air ATR’s tail section at 7:55 p.m. caused a fire on the Batik Air’s port wing but no injuries were reported.
The Lion Air Group's full-service Boeing 737 aircraft was about to take off for Makassar, South Sulawesi, before the collision. Both aircraft were then towed to a hangar.
"No casualties nor injuries, but both of the planes are damaged. The cause is currently under investigation. Why was Batik already told to take off when the TransNusa was still being towed?" Transportation Ministry spokesman Suprasetyo told KompasTV on Monday.
It was reported that there were 49 passengers and seven crew on the Batik Air plane and just one person, the pilot, on the TransNusa.
Halim Perdanakusuma Airport was closed at 8:00 p.m.
