Jakarta. Prosecutors are demanding a two-year sentence and a Rp 100 million — $7400 — fine or three extra months of prison time for Buni Yani, the man accused of uploading to social media a heavily edited video of a speech by Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama that resulted in a blasphemy charge — and eventually conviction — against the former Jakarta governor.

Buni was charged with violating Article 32 of the 2011 Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law — Indonesia's draconian internet law.

The sentence demand was read by prosecutors in a court session in Bandung on Tuesday (03/10).

"You have committed a crime under the ITE Law, deliberately and unlawfully adding, reducing or eliminating electronic information or electronic document belonging to another person," state prosecutor Andi M. Taufik said in court, as quoted by state news agency Antara.

The prosecutors said Buni did not help his cause by giving a series of complicated testimonies, being rude during the trial and expressing no regret. His irresponsible action has also caused interreligious rifts, Andi said.
Buni Defiant

"The prosecutors accused me of editing the video. Then I was asked to prove that I did not edit it. Are they stupid or what? Where did they study law?" Buni commented after the trial.

Buni remains adamant he had never edited the video that featured Ahok blaming politicians who used a verse from the Quran to discredit him.

Buni said his defense team will enter a plea two weeks from now.
