The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands announced that it has allocated an amount of Euro 30 million (around IDR 450 billion) for Stuned, a scholarship program for follow-up studies in the Netherlands, for the next five years (2010 – 2014).

The contract for the management of the 4th phase of the StuNed scholarships programme was signed in Jakarta on 8 December 2009 between Dutch Ambassador, Dr Nikolaos van Dam, and Mr Marrik Bellen, the Director of Nuffic Netherlands Education Support Office (Neso) Indonesia.

StuNed is a bilateral cooperation between the Netherlands and Indonesia that aims to contribute to human resources development. The target group for the StuNed scholarships programme are Indonesian young professionals. Priority will be given to candidates from Indonesian partner organisations of the Dutch Embassy: ministries, local governments, NGOs and also the private sector.

The decision to target the Embassy’s partners is because the scholarships are considered excellent instruments for developing the human resources and institutional capacity of the partners; for strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands, and for increasing the effectiveness of ongoing programmes.

StuNed will provide scholarships for Masters degree courses, short diploma courses, tailor-made training and refresher courses. The refresher courses are designed for StuNed alumni in order to refresh and up-date their skills and knowledge.

Since the start of StuNed in 2000, the programme has already provided more than 2000 Indonesian professionals with a scholarship to study in the Netherlands. The programme has been very successful, both for the individual participants as well as for their organisations.

Apart from StuNed, the Netherlands also provides Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) awards to Indonesians to pursue a Master’s and PhD degree as well as short diploma and refresher course programs, and the Huygens scholarships for outstanding individuals to pursue the final year of bachelor and full master degrees.
