Big waves sweep 150 houses in C. Sulawesi
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Tue, 02/22/2011
Hundreds of people living on the coast in Buol sub-district, Central Sulawesi, were made homeless after huge waves swept their houses away over the past two days.
The waves destroyed about 150 houses, mostly stilted houses, forcing the people to evacuate, Buol council member Ahmad Andi Makka said on Tuesday, Antara reported.
Andi said that houses in the area were often hit by big waves every year. The latest incident, however, was worse than the previous episodes.
Buol sub-district is among the few densely-populated areas in the Buol area.
