Over 200 kings and sultans from across the archipelago walked from the Savoy Homann Hotel to Gedung Merdeka in Bandung on Saturday as part of the national gathering of the archipelago’s kings and sultans.
Jl. Asia Afrika was closed for the event, Kompas.com reported.
Vice president Boediono officially opened the event. “Silatnas [the national gathering] is hoped to strengthen the national ties and diverse culture and the blessing of diversity,” he said as quoted by Tribunnews.com.
Also attending the opening were Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali, Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik, State Administrative Reform Minister E.E. Mangindaan and West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan.
The event will run until Sunday.
