A large fire destroyed 332 houses in a slum area in Tambora, West Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon.
The fire allegedly began after a short circuit in a house. Its owners were not there at the time reportedly on holiday for Idul Fitri.
The fire department deployed 33 fire trucks to the scene.
“The fire was difficult to extinguish due to the strong wind factor and because most of the affected houses were made from wood,” Endang Choirudin, West Jakarta fire brigade chief, said Thursday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Officer Mahmudin was injured while firefighting and is being hospitalized at the Sumber Waras hospital in Grogol, West Jakarta.
