7,000 condoms distributed at brothel in Madiun every month

Officers at Gude Wisma Wanita Harapan brothel in Teguhan, Jiwan, Madiun, East Java have reportedly been distributing nearly 7,000 condoms every month to visitors, an officer says.

“We receive two cardboard boxes every month, each containing 3,450 condoms,” said brothel security chief Tohirin on Tuesday, as quoted by Antara state news agency.

The condoms, Tohirin said, were supplied by the DKT Indonesia Foundation as part of a campaign to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS and other sexually-transmitted diseases.

“Officers are stationed at the parking lots. After paying the parking fee, visitors will receive condoms from the officers,” said Tohirin.

According to data from Madiun Social Service Agency, the number of sex workers at the brothel is now 74, associated with 25 pimps. They reside in 31 dormitories in the complex. Each dormitory reportedly consists of six rooms.
