Three workers lost their lives in strange circumstances aboard a ship docked in North Jakarta on Friday, a report said.
State news agency Antara reported that the men, employees of engineering company Pulau Kuda Laut, were working in the engine room of a ship when a fire extinguisher exploded.
Teguh, a witness, said the victims, Johan, Niko and Eko, were killed when they were hit by fragments of the extinguisher or were poisoned by the CO2 gas as they attempted to escape the engine room.
He said another two men, Ridwan and Widodo, attempted to rescue the trio but were also poisoned by the gas.
They were rushed to hospital and are still unconscious, he said.
Tanjung Priok Police crime unit Chief Adj. Comr. Jerry Raymond Siagian said police were still investigating the incident.
