A weakness for exotic dancers and honey traps has resulted in two judges being stripped of their jobs, pun intended.

The Ethics Council for Judges (MKH), set up by the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission, ruled on Tuesday that Dwi Djanuwanto, a judge at the Yogyakarta District Court, be axed from the court for soliciting strip-dance services in exchange for a favorable ruling for a corruption convict.

The MKH based its decision on a series of text messages between Dwi and Petrus Balapationa, a lawyer for defendant Moh. Ali Arifin, in which the judge demanded that the lawyer provide him with a hotel room complete with a stripper and a call girl — the latter reportedly at a going rate of Rp 500,000 per hour.

“For that, the Supreme Court has decided that the judge in question has been proven guilty of disgraceful behavior and a breach of the code of ethics, and that he be dishonorably discharged from the bench,” said Abas Said, a Judicial Commission member and head of the MKH.

The MKH also found Dwi had received plane tickets from Ali, who was charged with corruption in a road and bridge construction project in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.

For his part, Dwi pleaded with the MKH not to dismiss him, which would deprive him of his benefits as a civil servant.

“I ask that this decision not affect my standing as a civil servant, including my right to a pension,” he said. He was due to retire next year.

Also on Tuesday, the MKH announced it had also axed a judge from the Tapaktuan Shariah Court in South Aceh district, in staunchly conservative Aceh province, for molesting a woman whose divorce case he was presiding over.

The MKH said that the judge, Dainuri, was guilty of an ethical breach when he stroked the naked back of the woman, Evi Koeswari, in a hotel room shortly after she took a bath.

Imam Soebechi, a member of the MKH, said Dainuri was also guilty of receiving a kilogram each of apples and oranges from Evi in exchange for giving her a favorable decision in the divorce case.
