Four amateurishly assembled, low explosive, “bombs” exploded in a trench in front of a house in Jl.Platina, Medan Deli sub-district, Medan, early Saturday.

No cases injuries or deaths were reported from the blast, but it gave quite a shock to people who living very close by, who heard the two distinct blasts. The first blast occurred at 1.00 a.m. on Saturday and the second explosion a few minutes later.

Umar, Titi Papan community leader who witnessed the incident, went to the scene of the incident shortly after the first explosion and saw smoke and fires coming from the ditch.

“The bombs went off ins the trench. I saw smoke from the explosions rising after the detonation,” he said.

The North Sumatera’s deputy police chief Brig.Gen.Cornelis Hutagaol said the bomb was classified as low-explosive and the material was packed into hard plastic pipes.

“The bomb contained carbide as a detonator inside the pipes.” said Cornelis.

“We have yet to establish who detonated the bombs and what their motives were,” said Cornelis
