Bogor Police arrested a woman on allegations of fraud and seized a bag of counterfeit money worth more than Rp 1.2 trillion ($124 million) from her home.
Bogor Police chief Adj. Comr. Sr. Bahtiar Ujang Purnama said officers were tipped off when a person filed a report that he received a fake Rp 100,000 bill from a woman named Nuriyah.
“We investigated the case and raided her house in Cipake village, South Bogor, on Sunday and we found a bag containing counterfeit rupiah and several other currencies worth more than Rp 1.2 trillion,” he told Indonesian news portal Detik.com on Tuesday.
“The suspect has been operating since 2009 in Bogor, Cinajur, Sukabumi, Jakarta and Tangerang,” he added.
Nuriyah, a 46 year-old housewife, told police she received the money from two men identified as Eyang Aswong and Absah, who have yet to be found by the police.
Adj. Comr. Didik, chief of the Bogor Police detective unit, said Nuriyah was previously involved in a fraud case in Sukabumi, West Java, where she claimed she could double clients’ money if they let her plant it in the ground. Some of the victims said they lost millions of Rupiah.
Nuriyah was arrested and sentenced to serve jail time, but she was released last year.
