Briton Arrested for Allegedly Smuggling Crystal Meth

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has revealed details of a Briton detained in Surabaya, East Java, for allegedly smuggling 1.47 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from China.

The man, identified as A.R., was arrested on April 29 in a hotel room in Jalan Embong Kenongo, Surabaya, where BNN officers confiscated the drugs found in his room.

“A.R. admitted that the drug was taken from China upon the request of a Nigerian with the initial of J. who is on our search list,” Insp. Gen. Benny Mamoto, BNN’s deputy of eradication, said in his office on Friday.

A.R. told BNN officers that he was going to give the crystal meth to someone with the initials of P.B., who was arrested a day after in a hotel in Surabaya.

“The investigation result shows the drugs [were intended to be] handed to another suspect with the initials of H.L. or D. in Srengseng Sawah, South Jakarta,” Benny said.

The trio are being questioned at the BNN office.

Benny also said that his office had successfully prevented another case of crystal meth smuggling, which involved sending the drugs via a courier company on April 1. BNN officers found a water filter containing nearly 500 grams of crystal meth in the package.

He said that a customs officer at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was suspicious about the package from Shenzen, China, and decided to monitor its delivery.

A man with the initials of B.W. or A.S. came to the courier office in Pancoran, South Jakarta, requesting the package.

“After B.W. took the package, the officer arrested and questioned him,” Benny said.

B.W. admitted that the drug would be delivered to someone with the initial of E. in Malang, East Java. BNN officers arrested E. in front of a fruit store in Malang.

“For further investigation, both suspects and the evidence have been taken by the officers to the BNN office,” Benny said.
