Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri said that she would soon make a decision about the party’s presidential candidate for the 2014 election.

“Just wait until next month,” Megawati said when asked about whether she would nominate herself as the party’s presidential candidate and popular Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo as her running mate.

PDI-P deputy secretary-general Hasto Kristianto said that the possible Megawati-Jokowi ticket had been warmly received by party members.

Hasto said that Megawati was the perfect figure to lead the country given the complexity of its problems. He added that she could also protect Jokowi from any other political attacks.

“Although more than 60 percent of the country’s citizens support him, he could crumble if he has no protector,” Hasto said.
