Jakarta. A bus accident in South Sulawesi early Thursday morning claimed eight lives, police said.
“The bus fell off a 30-meter cliff and caught fire,” Western South Sulawesi Police spokesman Sr. Cmr. Endi Sutendi said. “The incident happened in the Mangkutana [subdistrict of South Sulawesi]. Eight people died, while 29 survived.”
He said that the bus was on the way to Poso, Central Sulawesi. It was reportedly driving too far to the left side of the road.
“We are still investigating why the driver was driving so far to the left,” he said. “We are also working to identify the victims.”
The survivors of the crash are currently being treated at the Wotu Public Hospital in South Sulawesi.
