A search and rescue team has recovered the bodies of 20 victims, nine of them minors, after a boat was overturned on Wednesday evening in waters near Tanjung Ledong, Labuhan Batu regency, North Sumatra.
"The victims' bodies have all been recovered. There was a total of 20 victims," Labuhan Batu resort police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ahmad Fauzi told The Jakarta Post over the telephone on Friday, adding that the 28 remaining passengers were successfully rescued.
Among the survivors were boat helmsman Koling, his wife and two children. However, nine other children did not survive the accident.
Fauzi explained that the police were not yet investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident because they had been focusing their energies on rescuing and recovering victims.
