The Jakarta Post, Jakarta, Monday December 01 2014
Members of the hard-line Islam Defenders Front (FPI) “inaugurated” their choice for Jakarta governor, Fahrurozzi, during their latest protest outside the Jakarta City Council (DPRD) building against the governorship of Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.
Fahrurozzi was “sworn in” by the head of the Betawi Brotherhood Forum (FBR) and member of the Jakarta Saviors Presidium, Luthfi Hakim, who stated that Fahrurozzi, coordinator of the Jakarta Community Movement (GMJ), would begin his duties as Jakarta governor effective immediately.
“With this, the entire presidium has decided that the governor of Jakarta is Fahrurrozi Ishak,” Lutfi announced during the “ceremony” in front of the council building on Monday as quoted by tempo.co.
Because the protestors had deemed Fahrurozzi the true governor, Luthfi insisted that Ahok no longer had the authority to govern the capital.
He called upon all Jakartans to recognize the governorship of Fahrurozzi.
“If anyone [other than Fahrurozzi] claims to be the governor of Jakarta and visits your neighborhood, you must reject him because Jakarta’s true governor is now Fahrurozzi Ishak,” he said confidently. According to Tempo, approximately 200 demonstrators participated in the protest on Monday.
After the quick “inauguration ceremony”, Fahrurozzi and his supporters marched toward nearby City Hall, once again disrupting traffic with their protest

FPI now only spreadinghatred rather than credibleopinion: NGO
The MAARIF Institute, a leading campaigner for Islamic pluralism within Indonesia, condemned on Monday the move by the hard-line Islam Defenders Front (FPI) to inaugurate its own “Jakarta governor” as a narrow-minded civic action.
“In terms of freedom of speech, the FPI has the right to voice its opinions. However, what I have noticed is that it offers no explanation other than political and sectarian hatred,” executive director Fajar Riza Ul-Haq said in a media statement on Monday.
“This point of view ruins the structure of democracy because people are provoked to disobey the rules that have been agreed upon.”
Fajar added that the FPI’s actions simply spread ethnic, religious and racial sentiments that threatened to disrupt the foundations of statehood, which are based on principles of diversity.
The FPI inaugurated Fahrurrozi Ishak as its self-proclaimed governor in opposition to official Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.
The FPI called on all Jakartans to recognize Fahrurrozi, leader of the Jakarta Community Movement (GMJ), as the rightful governor of Jakarta.
Fajar, a member of Indonesia’s second largest Islamic organization Muhammadiyah, said that the FPI’s actions showed its narrow-mindedness in not recognizing the standard procedures and democratic values that surrounded Ahok’s inauguration as Jakarta governor in late November.
He added that the actions of a number of Jakarta City Council (DPRD) deputy speakers were disappointing and exacerbated the situation by supporting the FPI’s point of view based on political reasons.
“The coalition rivalry in the House of Representatives is used as ammunition to delegitimize Ahok as Jakarta governor. The Jakarta City Council must focus on supervising Jakarta’s development under Ahok rather than being carried away by political intricacies that could degrade our democratic qualities,” Fajar said
