n anchor handling vessel belonging to the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKKMigas) was deployed on Thursday to recover the tail of the AirAsia A320 plane that went missing over the Karimata Strait.
The Crest Onyx vessel has a hoist that is able to pull loads of up to 50 tons and a platform to accommodate a plane tail.
“This vessel will help us lift the tail of the plane easier,” the Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Fuad Basya said on board naval vessel KRI Banda Aceh in waters off Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said, however, that the joint search and rescue (SAR) team would use floating bags to raise big parts of the aircraft, such as its fuselage, which has yet to be located as of the 12th day of the SAR operation surrounding AirAsia flight QZ8501.
Floating bags will be installed in the body of the plane by the military frogmen
