A Trigana aircraft lost contact during a flight from Jayapura to Oksibil, Papua, on Sunday.
The plane, piloted by Capt.Hasanudin, was scheduled to arrive in Oksibil at 3:15 p.m. local time.
Papua Police spokesperson Sr.Comr.Patrige said as quoted by Antara in Jayapura that the aircraft, which departed from Jayapura at 2:22 p.m, had not arrived in Oksibil.
The Jayapura-Oksibil flight normally takes 55 minutes.
The police said the Trigana plane had 54 people on board, including five crew members. The crew comprised pilot Capt.Hasanuddin, co-pilot Aryadin, mechanic officer Mario and female flight attendants Ika and Dita.
The Transportation Ministry confirmed on Sunday that a Trigana Air had lost contact with air traffic control.
The plane had 54 passengers and crew on board, an Indonesian transportation official said.
The Transportation Ministry’s head of public communications, Julius Andravida Barata, said the Trigana aircraft had lost contact with air traffic control at 2:55 p.m. during a flight from Jayapura to Oksibil on Sunday.
“The Trigana Air PK-YRN aircraft, flight number IL 267, has not landed in Oksibil. Contact with it has been lost, according to the ATC Tower in Oksibil,” he said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta.
Barata said the aircraft was piloted by Capt.Hasanudin. There were five crew members, including the pilot, and 49 passengers on board.
Authorities said a search and rescue team had been deployed.

Sentani Air Force Base commander Col.I Made Susila Adyana said as quoted by Antara on Sunday that Sentani Air Force Base authorities, together with the SAR team, had mapped the area around the flight path to estimate the location of the aircraft, which had 49 passengers and five crew members on board.
Pegunungan Bintang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Yunus Wally was quoted by Antara as saying in Jayapura on Sunday that it was suspected that the aircraft had crashed.
