Another Australian was found dead in Mentawai Islands regency, West Sumatra, on Wednesday, the second incident that occurred in less than two weeks.
Adam Albert Dube died on a diving trip with his friends, Mengawau Ajun Police chief Sr. Comr. Reko Indro Sasongo said, as quoted by tempo.co on Thursday.
Reko said that before Dube went diving, the man consumed alcoholic drinks.
Therefore, the police suspected that Dube was drunk when he was diving with his friends.
When the group returned to the surface, the man was nowhere to be found.
A search and rescue team was deployed and it found Dube’s body at Sipora Island on Wednesday morning. The police brought the body to Padang, West Sumatra.
Another Australian died on Aug. 25 while surfing in South Sipora in the Mentawai Islands.
The victim was identified as 54-year-old Ronald Stephen Schneider.
Looking at these two incidents, Reko called on foreign tourists to report their visits to the local police to enable the local authorities to trace their existence should anything bad happen.
“We also call on tour boats to remain cautious about the weather. The waves are very strong,” he said.
