Tax collectors to visit houses of celebrities with unpaid taxes

Jakarta tax officials have planned to visit the houses of celebrities to collect taxes they owe in an effort to reach the income target.

Jakarta Tax and Levy Board head Edi Sumantri said the agency had set an income target of 35.3 trillion (US$2.6 billion).

"We might go to several houses of celebrities like we did in August. We would visit the people who still owe taxes," Edi said as reported by kompas.com on Tuesday.

He said the tax officers, along with Jakarta traffic police personnel, would go door-to-door to collect the unpaid taxes.
Agency officials previously visited the homes of presenter Raffi Ahmad, soap opera star Anjasmara and comedian Tukul Arwana.

Based on data from the agency, Rp 35.08 trillion was recorded in tax revenue as of mid-December. With a surplus of nearly Rp 300 million, the year-end figure is expected to exceed the target.
