Jayapura (ANTARA News) - Four people early on Thursday attacked a solider in Tingginambut, Puncak Jaya, Papua, and grabbed his SS-1 assault rifle, ANTARA News learned.
The attackers also took away a magazine from the soldier known as Suliswanto from Battalion 756.
After receiving first aid at Mulia hospital the victim who was assigned at the Kalose military post was then evacuated to Tembagapura.
The 17th Cendrawasih Military Command spokesman, Lt Col Susilo, confirmed the incident, saying that the attack was done by an armed group led by Goliath Tabuni.
"The Military Command`s chief, Major General A.Y Nasution, has already confirmed that the attack was done by the Goliath Tabuni group which operates in the area," Susilo said.
He said Suliswanto was attacked with a knife while he was chatting with several people he met while he was going to a river around 25 meters away behind the post.
He said Suliswanto had also been beaten up, leaving injuries on his temples, neck and waist.
Suliswanto was now in a critical condition at the Marthen Indey military hospital, Susilo said.(*)
