The Jakarta Building Supervision Agency (P2B) began removing debris from the Metro Tanah Abang market Wednesday.
“The police line has been opened,” P2B chief Hari Sasongko said. “We have begun removing debris but we have to do it carefully to avoid any more injuries.”
He said the clearing process might be finished on Monday.
The agency, he said, could not determine a fine for the contractor or developer because his officers were still checking their documents.
“The lightest fine is a warning, a stronger one is freezing their permit for six months, while the heaviest is revoking the permit,” Hari said.
He said a number of agency officers were at the city police to give testimonies.
Governor Fauzi Bowo said he was waiting for the investigation result from the Police.
City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar neither picked up his phone nor replied to a text message asking him about the investigation update as of Wednesday afternoon.
Four people were killed and at least nine others were injured when the third story of the market collapsed last Wednesday.
The collapsed structure was part of an extension under construction to provide more toilets in the building.
