Prison responsible for prisoner switch
The Jakarta Post,
Prosecutors, an attorney, and a prison employee are reportedly responsible for a prisoner switch at the Bojonegoro prison, whereby a corruption convict, unwilling to serve her prison sentence, paid a non-inmate to replace her.
Corruption convict Kasiem was sentenced to a total of seven months imprisonment. Seeking to avoid doing time, Kasiem paid another woman, Karni from Jipang hamlet in Bojonegoro regency, a sum of Rp.10 million (US$1,110) to serve her prison sentence for her.
“The correctional facility can’t accept new people without valid data from the prosecution [office],” correctional facility spokesman Chandra Nestiyono said.
The correctional facility would launch an inquiry to verify the switch, he added, as quoted by kompas.com.
Although Kasiem surrendered herself to the Bojonegoro prosecutor's office on Dec.27, she was later replaced by Karni on the way to the correctional facility. Kasiem’s attorney, Hasnomo, prosecutor's office staffer Priyono, and a staff member at the correctional facility are allegedly implicated in the switch.
(Yup, way to go!! Get caught and sentenced for corruption, and get someone else to do your time!!)
