Jakarta Calls for Renovation of Buildings in Old City

The Jakarta government is calling on the owners of damaged buildings in the Old City to make renovations. “We can only coordinate with the owners,” Norviadi Setio Husodo, the restructure and development section chief of the Old City Technical Executive Unit, said yesterday.


As many as 13 old buildings owned by private companies, state-owned enterprises and individuals are damaged. Based on observations by Tempo, some of the windows and roofs have collapsed. The buildings were built during the Dutch colonial era and have historical value, said Norviadi. “That is why they were listed as cultural heritage buildings,” he said.


Of the 59 cultural conservation buildings in the area, only five belong to the Jakarta government, namely the Jakarta Historical Museum, Puppet Museum, Arts and Ceramic Museum, Maritime Museum, and a vacant space near the Old City Terminal.
