Hundreds of hard-liners have just set off from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta on a march to the State Palace that is “full of evil spirits” to pray for the government.
The protesters, who are demanding the government disband the minority Ahmadiyah sect, are currently gathered at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.
The Jakarta Police previously said 2,000 officers would be deployed at the rally site to anticipate the thousands of expected demonstrators, but only dozens of police officers were seen in the area.
The protesters were organized by the Islamic People’s Forum (FUI), which counts a number of hard-line Islamic organizations among its number, including the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia.
They plan to march to the State Palace that is “full of evil spirits,” FPI leader Habib Rizieq said.
At the palace, Habib said they would “read the Koran and pray for them.”
“Maybe the devil whispers in [President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s ears],” he said in his opening speech.
He also condemned local media as being a tool of international Zionist groups.
("the State Palace that is “full of evil spirits,” FPI leader Habib Rizieq said. Well I reckon, speaking over evil spirits, that this Rizieq character besides taking a good look at himself, should look at his followers, heaps of pure evil spirits there, ready for the eternal fires!) Kesas' musings.
