Palu. A woman from Donggala, Central Sulawesi, has allegedly mutilated her husband’s penis out of jealousy.
Erliyah from Labuan Induk village was taken into police custody after severing her husband’s penis while he slept on Monday.
“The initial allegation is that she did it because she was jealous and suspected her husband was having an affair with another woman,” Donggala Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. I Nengah Subagja said, adding that the police were investigating whether crime was premeditated or not.
“She is still being questioned at the headquarter,” Nengah said on Tuesday morning.
Erliyah’s husband, Astiyuh, came home late from work on Monday and went straight to bed. He awoke screaming when his wife cut off his penis.
Neighbors of the couple came into the house and saw Astiyuh lying on the bed with blood on his thighs. They took him to the nearest Madani hospital in Mamboro district, Palu. After receiving initial treatment there, the hospital transferred him to Anutapura Palu Hospital, which has better facilities.
Astiyuh was still in intensive care on Tuesday morning, and doctors had not yet granted police permission to question him.
