FUI seals Ahmadiyah office in Yogyakarta
Hundreds of members of the Yogyakarta Islamic Peoples Front (FUI) sealed the office of Ahmadiyah in Kotabaru, Yogyakarta on Sunday, demanding the sect be banned.
The crowd brought attributes from the Indonesian Mujahidin Assembly (MMI), the Islamic Jihad Front (FJI), the Anti-Immorality Movement (GAM), and others Islamic organizations, kompas.com reported.
They put a banner written “Disband Ahmadiyah” on Ahmadiyah office door.
They supported the Indonesian Ulema Council edict that stated Ahmadiyah as a deviated sect and banned the sect from spreading its teaching.
Police officers guarded the crowd activities to avoid any clash (All this x the Jak Pos)
(Police officers guarded the crowd activities to avoid any clash.-- Isn't the police supposed to uphold the law? Freedom of religion is still part of the rights that Indonesia boast about but very little does about! Time that these groups who have usurped the "right" to give other people a hard time who do not follow their dictates, were banned instead for iligitimate congregating without permit , disturbing the peace etc!.-- Kesas's musings)
