Marriage Certificate of Bekasi Man, Imposter ‘Wife’ Declared Invalid.
The Religious Affairs Office in Bekasi on Monday declared null and void all marriage documents issued in the religious union between Muhammad Umar and Fransiska Annastasya Oktaviany, who turned out to be a man named Rahmat Sulistyo.
The chief of the office in Jatiasih, Ahmad Sumroni, said that since the marriage certificate was issued based on false identification documents provided by Rahmat, the marriage documents were invalid.
“This marriage is illegal. Both are of the same gender,” he said. “Their marriage certificate will be officially revoked by our religious courts.”
Umar was married to Fransiska in September. The two met on Facebook and agreed to marry following a brief period of courtship.
The identity of Umar’s wife was revealed when neighbors stripped her clothes off, following months of speculation about her gender.
The locals managed to get hold of Fransiska’s ID card and saw the name Rahmat Sulistyo, a male resident of Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.
Jatiasih Police subprecinct chief Adj. Comr. Darmayana said on Monday that police were investigating whether there were other victims of Rahmat through Facebook, and where he got the forged documents necessary for the wedding.
A short glance on her Facebook page shows Fransiska seemed to be proud of her fake job, a flight attendant for Sriwijaya Air. Updates on the wall showed the following message, in Indonesian: “So many passengers on a Sriwijaya flight, but just four stewardesses including myself. Pray for me, hopefully my passengers are polite, and not rude!”
Another one, dated Oct. 1 last year, read: “Waiting for the arrival of Pak SBY [President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono] and wife plus entourage. It is an honor to be on a flight that shall be occupied by our president.”
TV footage showed that during their September wedding, one of the flower arrangements sent to the couple’s wedding read: “From President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Sriwijaya Air.”
Earlier, Darmayana said Umar had told police that he had never had sex completely naked with his wife.
“[Rahmat] would be clothed, with the jilbab [head scarf] on. He would turn and ask [Umar] to do it from behind. He would say he had stomach aches or menstrual period,” Darmayana said.
“We are also going to question the ‘parents’ of this ‘girl.’ They need to be charged as well,” he added, referring to people to whom Umar was introduced.
Neighbors apparently grew suspicious when they saw Fransiska acting like a man, and they demanded Umar have his wife examined at a clinic.
“This clinic allegedly issued a letter that he was female, but it was later found that this letter, too, was faked,” Darmayana said. “Finally, locals could not take it any longer. They stripped him. His underclothes were stuffed where breasts should have been.”
