Singapore Woman Jailed for Abusing Indonesian Maid.
Singapore. A woman employer was jailed for three months on Friday for abusing her Indonesian maid in 2009.
Executive assistant Neo Ai Hua, 35, had admitted to hitting Ms Novi Ariyanti's face with a frozen packet of meat, pinching her on the forearm repeatedly and kicking her on the lower back in October 2009.
The court heard that on Oct 16 that year, Neo was showing the 25-year-old maid how to thaw frozen meat at her flat in Teban Gardens Road when she questioned the victim why why she was watching and not doing anything else.
When Ms Novi was walking towards the living room to take care of her employer's son, Neo hit her face with the packet of frozen meat, causing her nose to bleed for 15 minutes.
Two days later, the maid was trying to shut the door of the freezer when Neo became unhappy and pulled her by the hair and T-shirt into the living room.
The victim was pushed down to the floor into a kneeling position before Neo scolded and pinched her forearms repeatedly. She also kicked her in the lower back three times.
Neo could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined up to $7,500 on each of the two charges. A third was taken into consideration.
