Singapore. A 79-year-old woman was charged with three counts of maid abuse on Tuesday.
Maimunah Ahmad, who came to court in a wheelchair, allegedly used a heated frying spade to cause a burn mark on the upper right arm of Ms Puteri Andanari, 23, in the kitchen area of a flat in Tampines Street 41 between Nov 13 and 27, 2009.
She is also accused of using a plastic hanger to hit the Indonesian domestic worker all over her body, and a plastic ladle to hit her three times on the head, on Dec 2 the same year.
Her case was adjourned to July 11.
If convicted of causing hurt with a heated substance, she can be jailed for up to 10 1/2 years and fined.
The maximum penalty for each of the other two offences is three years and a $7,500 fine.
