The great-granddaughter of former President Suharto, Putri Ariyanti Haryowibowo, began using drugs at the age of 14, a physician testified in court on Monday.
The revelation was delivered by Dr. Karla, head of the Drug Addiction Treatment Hospital (RSKO), who took the witness stand at Putri's court hearing at the South Jakarta's District Court, according to news portal Detik.com.
Putri, the granddaughter of Suharto's first son, Sigit Harjojudanto, was arrested on March 19 in a Jakarta hotel room, where police seized 0.88 grams of methamphetamine and a water pipe.
The 22-year-old tested positive for the use of methamphetamine and ecstasy upon her arrest, police said.
“Putri has used drugs since she was 14 years old. Her addiction started with her smoking and alcohol drinking habit,” Karla said on Monday.
“She only used a small amount of drugs at first but when she turned 17, she started experimenting with ecstasy and other drugs. But for the last six months, she routinely took three grams of meth a day,” Karla said.
“If she doesn't use meth, she can't do anything. She is mentally and physically dependent on drugs.”
Putri is facing a charge of illegal drug possession
