After its eruption late last month, volcanic activity has intensified again on Mount Lokon in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, with nine minor eruptions with brief intervals on Tuesday.
North Sulawesi volcanic monitoring post chief Farid Ruskanda Bina said the eruptions had spewed ash 100 to 300 meters into the air.
The minor eruptions began at around 1.15 a.m. local time (12.15 a.m. in Jakarta) and increased in intensity at around 7.15 a.m.
“As of 10:25 a.m., there had been nine eruptions of volcanic ash. However, there has been no lava yet,” Farid said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
He added that the government had issued a level-3 warning for the volcano and recommended residents move to a safe distance of at least 3 kilometers from the crater.
“Until now there has been neither an increase nor a decrease in the warning level. It has been at level 3 since last week,” Farid said.
