Indonesian Maid Jailed for Flushing Cash in Hong Kong

Hong Kong. An Indonesian domestic helper has been jailed for 16 weeks after ripping up 9,900 Hong Kong dollars ($1,270 dollars) belonging to her employer and flushing the money down the toilet, a newspaper report said on Thursday.
Komariyah Siti, 25, said she was angry after being molested by her employer’s father and being denied breakfast, the South China Morning Post said.
A court in the Sha Tin district of the city heard that Siti, who pleaded guilty to theft and misleading police, telephoned her boss, Tsang Kam-ha, saying someone had struck her from behind as she returned home and had passed out.
Police were called and Siti was sent to hospital. When Tsang returned, she found the 9,900 Hong Kong dollars missing.
After being questioned by police, Siti admitted inventing the attack and destroying the banknotes.
Her lawyer said the maid had complained many times to her boss of being molested by Tsang’s father but no action had been taken.
Instead, Siti broke open a drawer looking for her employment contract but saw the money and overcome by anger ripped it up and flushed it away.
Magistrate Andrew Ma Hon-cheung jailed her for 14 weeks for theft and eight weeks for misleading police, although six weeks of the sentence were to run concurrently.
