Six districts in the East Nusa Tenggara regency of West Sumbawa face the threat of food deficiency after a prolonged rainy season ruined local harvests, an official said Thursday.
West Sumbawa Agriculture and Food Resiliency Counseling Agency head Yohanis Gopa said in Waikabubak, West Sumbawa, that the six districts comprised Waikabubak, Loli, Tanah Righu, Wanokaka, Lamboya and West Lamboya.
He said prolonged rains ruined rice and maize harvests.
Yohanes said the agency had deployed a team to investigate impacts of the failed harvests.
Fellow agency official Aloysius Mampur said the local administration was ready to spend Rp 50 million (US$5,850) from its 2011 budget to address the issue, news portal tribunnews.com reported.
