Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo has instructed the city-run tap water company PAM Jaya, along with its privately owned tap water operators PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) and PT Aetra Air Jakarta, to immediately supply clean water to residents following the recent collapse of a dam in Kalimalang, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Those in charge of tap water supply should work harder to make sure all residents have running water while the dam is repaired, Fauzi said Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
Areas affected by the collapse and subsequent water shortage include the Presidential Palace, City Hall and City Council building.
Palyja spokeswoman Meyritha Maryanie said that her company had made sure there was no disruption in the supply of clean water to those three locations.
"We have sent two water tankers to keep supplying the clean water to the three compounds until the repair work finishes," Meyritha said.
Meanwhile, Aetra spokeswoman Rika Anjulika said her company had prepared 11 water tankers to supply water to areas affected by the shortage.
Rika added that her company would prioritize the provision of water for public facilities such as hospitals.
