The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) will withdraw its support for Bogor Mayor Diani Budiarto, due to his polemic handling of the Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) of Taman Yasmin in Bogor, West Java.
“I am very disappointed with his explanation because it contradicted the Constitution. I and Trimedya [PDI-P politician] will instruct the PDI-P faction in Bogor to pull its support,” the PDI-P’s deputy secretary-general Achmad Basarah said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
The House of Representatives has summoned Budiarto over complaints from the GKI Yasmin congregation following the mayor’s refusal to enact a Supreme Court decree, which demanded that the mayor overturn the ban on the church’s construction.
Budiarto said he was acting on pressure from other community members in Bogor who rejected the establishment of the GKI Yasmin church.
