A 30-year old female migrant worker from Trenggalek, East Java, has died at her employer’s house in Hong Kong after falling from the 10th floor.
“After we looked into it, the death was caused by a fall from the 10th floor, but we will find out [more],” Migrant Institute coordinator Suprapti said Tuesday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Migrant institute data revealed that the woman, identified by the name of Istiqomah, worked for in a house belonging to Choi Nai Nai in the Pok Fu Lam area of Hong Kong since last year.
The non-governmental organization urged the government to look into the death as soon as possible and make efforts to have her body sent to Indonesia.
“Don’t let it become another case of Kikim Komalasari [migrant worker from Cianjur, West Java] whose body was only managed to be brought home 10 months after her death,” he said.
Istiqomah’s death adds to the list of migrant workers who lost their lives while working abroad.
The latest case was that of Juju Juhanah from Majalengka, West Java, who reportedly also fell off her employer’s apartment in Thaif, Saudi Arabia.
(Yeah, no doubt, fallen over the ledge while hanging out her employers washing!) siK.
