Indonesian Police say they will investigate a shocking video that shows the prolonged assault of a girl by mainly female students from her school. The clip, shot on a mobile phone, has gone viral.
Sahril, a spokesman for the junior high school at the center of the video, SMPN 16 in Bandar Lampung, Lampung province, told Tribunnews.com on Friday that the school had informed the police about the abuse.
He said the students involved had been expelled.
Comr. Syaiful Wahyudi, chief detective with Bandar Lampung Police, however, said police had not received a copy of the video or a complaint from the school.
“We’re going to investigate it, but as of now, we haven’t received the report or the video as evidence.”
In the video the victim was subjected to a range of abuses, including being kicked, slapped and mocked, mainly by three girls. At one point her hair was pulled and she was kicked in the genitals.
At the end of the video, the victim was forced to kneel and kiss the leg of one of her tormentors.
The school spokesman said the incident had been sparked by alleged abuse on Facebook and the attentions of a boy.
