Heavy downpours in Bogor since Tuesday morning have caused water levels in the Katulampa sluice gate to exceed normal levels.
An officer at the gate, Andi Sudirman, reported that the water levels had risen from 40 centimeters at 3:30 a.m. to 80 centimeters at 6:10 a.m. and 100 centimeters at 6:20 a.m.
However, the level receded again to 90 centimeters at 8 a.m.. and 70 centimeters at 9 a.m., Andi said.
"We haven't raised the alert status of the river yet," Andi said Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
However, Andi advised the residents living on the banks of the Ciliwung in Jakarta to remain alert on Tuesday evening as water from Bogor will reach Jakarta within 12 hours.
On Monday, torrential rains hit the southern parts of Greater Jakarta, causing the Krukut River to overflow and inundate hundreds of houses in Pondok Labu, with waters up to two meters deep in some areas.
More than 1,200 residents were evacuated in the incident.
