The Judicial Mafia Task Force has received up to 5,000 complaints since it was established on Dec. 30, 2009, the task force chief has said.
Task force chief Kuntoro Mangkusubroto said Thursday that the task force had studied 4,401 complaints and reported 163 cases to the relevant institutions.
“We followed up on 73 cases,” Kuntoro said as quoted by tempo.co.
The task force handled several prominent cases, including cases implicating former tax officer Gayus Tambunan and businesswoman Artalyta Suryani.
However, Kuntoro stressed that the task force was formed not to process the cases, but only to coordinate and facilitate the law enforcement agencies.
The force was also tasked with encouraging relevant institutions to reform their existing systems to prevent such crimes from happening in the future.
Task force member Dharmono added that he hoped citizens would actively participate in the efforts to eradicate judicial corruption. (swd)
