West Papua will play host to the 2012 World Physics Olympiad (WoPho), the Olympiad’s organizing committee has announced.
“The next World Physics Olympiad will held in Manokwari [West Papua], after being held in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, this year,” WoPho initiator Yohanes Surya said Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Taiwan is due to host the competition in 2013.
“After that, Indonesia will have to wait several years before hosting the WoPho again,” he said.
Before the 2012 WoPho, Indonesia will have to prepare three levels of selection, comprising selection rounds from January to June, discussion rounds from July to December and a final round in December.
The first WoPho, themed “Beat the Champion”, was held from Wednesday to Tuesday in Mataram, hosting 142 student participants from 15 countries, including Turkey, China, Germany, Russia, Poland and Brazil. (swd)
