TEMPO Interactive, Puncak, Papua:The body of Karel Mayau, the director of the Duwoga Ilaga Community Health Center in Puncak Regency, Papua, was found covered in blood on the street after a clash during a local election.
“Karel’s body was taken by the residents and was cremated [on Wed. afternoon],” said Yunus Kelabetme, Puncak Regency’s Regional Representative Council (DPRD) Commission A chairman, said Thursday.
Karel was one of six victims that were killed in the clash in Kali Hila, during the Ilaga local elections in Puncak regency, Papua, on Wednesday. However, only three victims were identified. “There were three casualties. Two have been cremated, and one is still at the Ilaga funeral home,” Yunus added.
The clash involved supporters of Elvis Tabuni and Simon Alom, both candidates for the Puncak regent. According to Yunus, the incident broke out at around 8 a.m. local time with a number of people gathering near the river. Simon Alom’s supporters were across the river, in the Ilaga District, while Elvis Tabuni’s gathered on the other side.
“They shot arrows at each other. Suddenly, dozens of people joined behind Elvis Tabuni’s line carrying organic weapons and started shooting at the crowd,” Yunus continued.
( a sad enough incident, but ahh organic weapons? siK.)
