President refuses to pardon Bali bomber

JAKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has refused to pardon Ali Imron, who was sentenced to life for his role in the 2002 Bali bombings.
"His request had been denied. We have received the *presidential* decision letter," Ida Bagus Siwananda, head of the Denpasar prosecutor's office, said.
Ali was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the nightclub blasts that killed 202 people - mostly foreign holidaymakers - on Oct. 12, 2002. The sentence was lighter than those handed down to two of his brothers Amrozi and Ali Gufron, who were executed along with Imam Samudra on Nov. 9 last year.
Ali has been cooperative during police investigation He is now detained at Krobokan prison in Denpasar.
