Singapore. An Indonesian maid was jailed a total of 12 months on Wednesday for stealing her employer’s ATM card and making unauthorized withdrawals.
Ratna Muhammad, 34, stole a total of $9,880 from her employer, Mah Puay Hoon, 86, on 72 occasions between Oct. 3, 2011 and March 22 this year.
She admitted to five counts of theft of the ATM card from Mah at her Namly Avenue home, and another five counts of stealing between $310 and $780 from ATMs in Holland Village and National University Hospital, Kent Ridge. The total amount in the proceeded charges is $2,190.
A district court heard that she would steal Mah’s ATM card from her wallet, withdraw money from the ATM and remit it to her family in Indonesia.
She had memorized the victim’s ATM card personal identification number when she had followed the victim to make previous withdrawals.
Another 134 charges of theft were taken into consideration during her sentencing.
