Denpasar. An Australian national was badly injured after fighting off two men who allegedly attempted to rob a Bali villa at which he and his family were vacationing.
“The victim is currently being treated at Bali International Medical Center Hospital,” Bali’s North Kuta Police chief Adj. Comr. Aldi Rafiq said on Friday.
He added that Paul Gill, a 40-year-old ship captain, had stab wounds on his neck, shoulder and face, among other places, when he was admitted to the hospital.
He underwent surgery before being moved to another hospital room.
Aldi said Gill was staying at Chloe Villa on Jalan Pantai Brawa in North Kuta with his wife and two children, when two men broke into the house to allegedly rob it at around 2 a.m. on Friday.
Gill caught them in the act, and they immediately attacked him.
The robbers managed to escape, although it’s unclear whether they stole anything from the villa, which is operated by a Frenchman.
Aldi added that he did not know whether any security officer was guarding the villa at the time of the incident.
“We’re still questioning a number of witnesses,” he said.
