Eight people were injured after a train rammed into a Kopaja bus at a railway crossing in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Sunday morning.
The Kopaja P19 was hired to transport a group of people to a wedding reception when its driver, Daryono, ignored a siren signaling a train was coming and attempted to cross the tracks as the barriers were closing.
“At the same time, a train came from the direction of Pasar Minggu Station, heading to Kalibata Baru Station. It hit the back of the bus,” South Jakarta Police traffic accident unit head Adj. Comr. Sigit Purwanto said in Jakarta on Sunday.
Most of the passengers fled the bus before the train hit it, but eight people were injured. Police reported that no one was killed.
“The figure [of injured people] may increase as we still gather data. Victims have been admitted to Siaga Pasar Minggu and JMC Hospitals,” he added.
The driver and his assistant reportedly fled the scene shortly after the accident.
