Shareholders at Garuda Indonesia on Friday approved the appointment of Indosat director Fredrick Johanes Erik Meijer to become a new unaffiliated director with the airline.
“According to the vote counting, the general shareholders meeting agreed to appoint Fredrick Johannes Erik Meijer as an unaffiliated director, in line with the regulation of the stock exchange,” said Garuda president commissioner Bambang Susantono, while chairing the shareholders’ meeting on Friday.
Meijer, who is currently the marketing director for Indosat, will now have to resign from that position.
State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan has been in full support of Meijer’s appointment as a Garuda director, previously saying that his expertise and experience with several large private and public enterprises would bring a positive contribution to the airline.
Meijer, a Netherlands national, was the former deputy president director of Bakrie Telecom before he joined Indosat in 2012.
During the meeting, the general assembly also discharged Garuda’s marketing director Elisa Lumbantoruan.
Dahlan had previously said that Elisa would be transferred to another state company.
“Elisa is a great person and she will have no difficulties being placed in any state-owned enterprise,” Dahlan said.
Garuda’s board of directors is headed by Emirsyah Satar as president while the other directors are Faik Fahmi, Handrito Hardjono, Heriyanto Agung Putra, Batara Silaban, Judi Rifajantoro, Capt. Novijanto Herupratomo and Meijer.
On Friday, Bambang Wahyudi was also honorably discharged as a commissioner, while Bagus Rumbogo was appointed as a member of the board of commissioners and Chris Kanter as an independent commissioner.
Garuda’s board of commissioners now consists of Bambang Susantono as the president commissioner, Betty S. Alisjahbana, Peter F. Gontha, Sonatha Halim Jusuf, Wendy Aritonang, Bagus and Chris.
