TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Volcanic and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) prohibited tourists and the local community to go near the Kelimutu Lake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) yesterday.
The lake famous for its beautiful three colored crater was closed due to one of the craters, the Nua Muri Ko'o Fai crater, emitting poisonous sulfur gas. Plantation farmers near the area were also prohibited from doing any farming activities. Tini Thadeus, Head of the NTT Disaster Mitigation Agency, revealed this situation may cause the lake to produce lava as well.
The dangerous activity of the 1,635 meter mountain above the sea was marked by the change in color of two out of the three crater lakes. The Kawah Tiwu Nua Muri Ko'o Fai Crater Lake turned from a light green color to a murky brown and the color of the Tiwu Ata Polo Crater Lake turned from maroon to green
