Two Nahdlatul Ulama wing organizations, the Pagar Nusa martial arts organization and the Ansor Youth Movement condemned the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) attack on an interfaith discussion in Surabaya on Tuesday and urged the police to investigate.
“FPI is against Islam, human rights and democratic values. This is not the first time for FPI,” Pagar Nusa chief Mohammad Hasanuddin Wahid said on Wednesday, questioning why the police did nothing whenever they encountered FPI.
The interfaith discussion was held at a restaurant on Jl. Margorejo, but just before the discussion started, the police warned the committee that they should stop because of threats from fanatics.
The discussion then moved to the Surabaya diocese house which was attacked by eight FPI members who forced the discussion to be dispersed
