TEMPO.CO, Padang - If you are traveling along the city of Padang in West Sumatra, do not miss the chance to drop by Lontong Stengkel Amak Galak on Jalan Gajahmada in Pujasera. The restaurant opens from around six in the afternoon until eleven in the evening.
This restaurant serves delicious lontong stengkel that is often craved by the people of Padang. Stengkel is a piece of cow or ox bone that is often made into a soup dish where people suck out the bone marrow with a straw.
Previously famed as a snack, this dish is now enjoyed as a tasty and filling meal. The savory flavor of the soup is quite tasty as the bones are cooked with bits of meat still stuck on them.
The lontong stengkel was previously a breakfast dish by Hermayenti, the cook. Initially, her mother cooked this dish near their home. As the demand for it grew, they began to sell it to neighbors and finally opened an outlet so that anyone can enjoy the sweet and savory flavor of the bone marrow.
Lontong stengkel is now one of the top choices for dining in Padang. If you want to experience a unique way to dine, then throw away all the usual cutlery, pick up a straw, and enjoy the pleasant sweet savory flavors of the bone marrow at Lontong Stengkel Amak Galak.
(just incase you happen to go there, but this lontong is delicious even if you try to make it yourself!)
